AUDITIONS

DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE ANDRO FAMDRO?

Then good news! Andro audtions new members every Fall within the first two weeks of the start of the semester. We also occasionally hold auditions at the beginning of Spring semester as well! Specific dates and times vary annually. Watch this page for more information.

REQUIREMENTS:

1) Must be a student currently enrolled at Davidson College.

2) Prepare a verse and chorus of a song of your choice.

3) Must be able to make rehearsal times.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Anyone who is currently enrolled as a student at Davidson can audition to be a member, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, grade, etc, or level of experience. With that said, we are looking for skillful singers who are dedicated, passionate and multi-faceted individuals who can help the group in more ways than just singing. Those who are able to beatbox, arrange music, and/or have high organizational skills are always valuable assets to the group and can increase your chances of acceptance into the group. Auditionees who do not currently possess these skills but are willing to learn from others in the group will also have increased odds.

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

We look for a few key factors from your audition:

1) Pitch - Can you hold a tune? Can you stay in tune? Can you hear a note and sing it back? And, for the very skilled, can you hear a harmony?

2) Confidence - Auditions are always nerve-wracking, and we understand this. We will not criticize you for trembling a little or not sounding your absolute best. However, we do need to know that you can at least make it through the audition and sing in front of an audience. After all, we sing in front of lots of people all the time. If you feel like you really messed up or think you might struggle with this, feel free to contact us directly at davidsonandro@gmail.com. We are more than happy to help with nervous singers if we think you might be an asset to the group!

3) Personality - We want to hear who YOU are, not how much you sound like someone else.

WHAT SHOULD I SING?

With all this in mind, choose a song which:

1) Shows off your voice and that you have practiced many times before. This will make you sound on top of your game and hopefully calm most of the nerves.

2) Is unique. It's not the end of the world if you come in and sing "Hallelujah" for us, but try and be original. It will make you stand out of the pack and we are more likely to remember you. We are also open to the wackier side of music so feel free to go a little wild. Nothing is too "weird" for Andro.

3) Mean something to you. Maybe not something that is going to make you cry in the middle of an audtion -- we still need to hear you sing. But often, the more meaningful the song to you, the better you sing it.

4) Is not too long. A verse and chorus is the perfect amount. A little over is fine, but we probably will not hear much more of your voice in that space. With this in mind, pick the part of the song which will show off your voice the best, or try and pick a song that has a great verse and chorus.
